The Phoenician Grand Ballroom shined like silver and glittered like gold as many guests gathered for the ISES annual Night of Honors and Gala on February 10, 2001. The festivities took place at the elegant Phoenician Resort Grand Ballroom in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Guests at the event delighted in the antics of a Dean Martin impersonator who crooned Dino favorites with (slightly altered) lyrics espousing the many virtues of Thomas J. Fogarty, MD. During the entertainment, Night of Honor and Gala guests dined on The Phoenician's delectable cuisine and sipped wine from the Fogarty Winery.

The ISES Honors Nominating Committee and Board of Directors ensured that Dr. Fogarty received his due recognition when it was officially announced that he was the recipient of the 2001 ISES Honor Award for Excellence in Endovascular Innovation.

Dr. Fogarty's innovations span four decades and include more than 70 patents for a variety of medical and non-medical devices. Most recently, the FDA has approved the AneuRx Stent-Graft for aneurysm exclusion, which Dr. Fogarty designed and developed. His lifesaving inventions have earned him numerous awards, including the prestigious 2000 Lemelson-MIT Prize for invention and the San Francisco Patent and Trademark Association's 1980 Inventor of the Year.
