The 2002 ISES Honor Award for Excellence in Endovascular Innovation
for seminal contributions to the field of endovascular interventions was
presented to Dr.
Julio Palmaz during a night of celebration on February 9, 2002 at the
Phoenician Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Throughout this elegant evening, guests were treated to testimonials by Dr. Palmaz's friends and family, who cited his many lifetime achievements -- both in and out of endovascular medicine. The role of Dr. Palmaz in the development of the endovascular stent was recounted as his landmark professional contribution. The Palmaz stent has garnered a prominent position in the annals of endovascular history as the cornerstone of an ever-growing array of implantable devices that restore the blood flow channel in diseased vessels. Dr. Palmaz's wonderful family was introduced, followed by a program of good-natured "roasting" during which a video parody of Life Styles of the Rich and Famous was shown. Then a panel of colleagues and friends offered tributes in both video and testament to Dr. Palmaz's professional accomplishments. The evening concluded with the presentation of the ISES Honor Award for Excellence. All in attendance enjoyed the festive evening of music, dance and friendly conversation., |
